Be a Luna Lovegood

Gulping Gargoyles! I can’t believe I finally did this! I finally started a blog! But, truthfully, I have zero intentions of following a certain direction regarding what I’ll be posting. It isn’t going to be specific like fashion or food or anything of that sort.

I’m just someone who happens to think too much about too many things, and writing it down helps me, so that’s what I’m going to do. Except, this time, it won’t only be me who’ll be reading it.

Also, there’ll probably be tons of HP and Bollywood references in my writing that I unintentionally put down, so do enjoy them haha!

Merlin’s beard, I just realized I’m straying from the actual topic of this introductory post. Well, recently, I started rereading one of my favorite book series; Harry Potter, and I’ve fallen in love with it all over again.
I was just scrolling through some super cool fanfics (btw, recommendations coming soon!) and I couldn’t help but start to admire Luna Lovegood, a free-spirited, quirky, and an authentic character whom I never quite noticed in the series back when I first read it.

When I read about her, I couldn’t help but notice how eccentric yet totally cool her character was and I really ended up loving her persona a bit too much.

Throughout the books, she remained calm during the storm and the confident one who didn’t give two f*cks about what everyone thought about her. She was a boss woman who owned and embraced all her quirks and idiosyncrasies unapologetically. It’s inspiring…to a whole new level.

Luna, when she was first introduced in the Order of the Phoenix, seemed very queer and ‘loony’ as Hermione preferred to describe her. You’d think she wouldn’t be an important character but boy, that turned around, didn’t it?! She not only played as an emotional and super positive support system for Harry but also made friends who liked her for her. And that just shows that you’ll find your people, your tribe, your group when you can truly and completely be yourself in front of them, flaws, quirks, eccentric stuff, the entire baggage!

Luna wearing the lion hat

There was this one part in Order of the Phoenix that really got to me. Many of Luna’s possessions are lost / stolen during her 5th year at Hogwarts and Harry catches her searching for her things in the passageway. When he offers to help Luna find her stuff, she gently declines his offer and instead, gifts him with a sentence that I think is so important for everyone to hear. “I’ll just go down and have some pudding and wait for it all to turn up…it always does in the end.”

This dialogue is so freaking significant because it shows how worldly possessions, at the end of the day, are just meaningless and is just us getting in touch with our consumerist, materialistic selves. But why I really love this phrase is because of a whole other meaning. What Luna said is literally a subtle assurance that everything always turns out right in the end. That, sometimes, you can’t control everything so you just gotta sit back and relax, or like Luna, eat some pudding and wait for everything to fall in place because, eventually, it all just does.

I think from now on I’m going to try and follow this train of thought no matter what.

Luna is so open about who she is. She knows she isn’t your normal witch, she reads magazines upside down, voices almost every single one of her thoughts, wears funky, whimsical glasses and embosoms her quirky interests in Blibbering Humdingers and Crumple-Horned Snorkacks (yeah don’t worry, it took me more than a minute to write the correct spelling for these words).

But me? I’ve never been one to embrace all my quirks and eccentric elements, but Luna Lovegood makes me want to. She makes me realize that somewhere you just need o drop the veil and embrace yourself, truthfully and completely, and not overcomplicate things.

I’m someone who prefers to only showcase my quirky behavior and my different side to people I’m super comfortable with and while I’ve been pretty okay with that, it can be truly exhausting at times. I just guess that maybe it’s time I and everyone else who has been doing the same thing as me, shed our extra layer of cover and be our goofiest, funkiest selves. What are we going to lose? The people who can’t like you for you aren’t the people you want to associate yourself with. I’ve learnt that by now.

So…what I’m trying to say is that just go be the best Luna Lovegood you can be. Just do things you want to, openly and unabashedly. Love unabashedly, live unabashedly and believe unabashedly.

I think I’m going to leave you with this wonderful phrase:

Crumple-Horned Snorkacks or Wrackspurts? Real or fake? Doesn’t matter! Be like Luna and just believe.

Thank you so much for reading!

It is indeed very important to be yourself and what’s meant for you will be yours eventually so best is to wait and not chase it.
